Vineyard Manager Michael Wolf:
The winter preceding the 2015 vintage was very dry, with Rutherford receiving 13 inches of rain. Although budbreak was earlier than historic averages, fortunately the vineyard did not experience any frost damage. 2015 was a very warm growing season, with lower yields, marked by several severe heat events. Various canopy management and irrigation strategies were employed to both protect the fruit from heat damage and to allow it to ripen fully. Overall yields at the J.J. Cohn Estate were below average, and the hot summer led to an early start to harvest. Harvesting between heat events, and having the patience to wait until the fruit was fully ripe was a challenge, requiring great discipline and the ability to react and respond quickly. Celia as usual rose stunningly to the occasion. Harvest began on September 4th, and extended to September 21st to get the best quality fruit possible out of each of the individual blocks.
Winemaker Celia Welch writes of the 2015 Scarecrow:
With winter 2015 we saw a very welcome end to our four-year drought, and the vineyards rejoiced. Although the crop was, overall, much smaller than several prior years, the quality was outstanding, as evidenced in this latest release of Scarecrow.
The wine offers very showy aromas of black cherry, warm raspberries and a hint of warm toasty vanilla, with undertones of sweet earth and tobacco. Consistent with our best vintages, the entry is broad and velvety, with tannins that are polished enough to enjoy now but a structure that promises good things to those who possess the patience to wait. The finish delivers all the juiciness promised by that intensely fruit-driven nose, and the power and backbone that provide balance.
Harvested completely by hand at night, between September 9 and 21, this wine is entirely grown on the J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford, Napa Valley. The fruit was destemmed, optically sorted, and fermented in small batches. After approximately 24 days on skins the wine was gently pressed and transferred to French Oak barrels, of which roughly 80% were new barrels. The wine was kept in these barrels for nearly a year, then assessed for quality before the final Scarecrow blend was created in Summer 2016. Returned to rest in oak for an additional 10 months, the 2015 Scarecrow was bottled in late July 2017 without fining or filtration. A total of 1,850 cases were bottled.

Produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon leaps from the glass with gorgeous floral notes of red roses and lilacs over a core of black and red cherries, crushed black currants and baking spices plus hints of iron ore and dusty earth. The voluptuous, rounded, soft and sexy fruit slinks across the palate with incredible seamlessness and expression. Make no mistake, it is full-bodied and decadently powerful, but with a myriad of aromatic nuances, finishing long, layered and boldly perfumed. (LPB, 10/2017)

The inky colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beauty that shows a richer, more masculine, structured style compared to the 2014. Blackcurrants, smoked herbs, dark chocolate, and graphite notes all emerge from this power packed, rich, full-bodied beauty that has sweet tannin and a great finish. This is a heavenly bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from some of the oldest vines in the valley, in the J.J. Cohn Vineyard on the western side of Rutherford. (12/2017)

The 2015 Scarecrow is stunning. Powerful and intense, but with more detail than it has shown in the past, the 2015 is positively dazzling. Super-ripe red cherry, pomegranate, mint, blood orange and exotic spice infuse this deep, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the years, winemaker Celia Welch has dialed back the oak by giving the wine less time in barrel and lowering toast levels, while moving towards dry farming in the vineyard. Those are some of the choices that have resulted in a truly epic Scarecrow. (AG, 01/2018)

Broad, expansive and layered, with dark berry, currant, anise, cedar and sage notes, supported by firm, chewy tannins and an impressive aftertaste where the flavors glide along effortlessly. *Collectibles* (JL, 08/2018)

Some items are removed from original packaging, and placed in protective shipping containers to ensure safe delivery.
While most orders are shipped the day they are placed. The demand for limited supplies will occasionally deplete our stock of a paticular product, in this case it will generally take an additional 1 - 2 business days to receive the product and fufill the order.

In the event that we shipped an incorrect item, we may ask you to hold on to those items and the exsisting packaging so that we can arrange for a return pick up. Occasionally a chosen vintage of a wine may sell out or be replaced by a new release after your order is placed. Bottles of wine that are under $20, will not hold up an order and we will simply automatically substitute the wine with the comparable vintage. Please be assured that we will only substitute with a vintage for the same wine. Wine that is valued more than $20 per bottle, we will attempt to contact the customer. After two attempts, the available vintage will be automatically shipped out. (The return policy of $15 return shipping costs, and 15% restocking fee will be enforced.)
Yiannis Wine will not be held liable for damages to orders due to weather conditions during shipping. Potential exposure to extreme heat or cold may damage items during shipping. As we can not be held responsible for products damaged due to weather, we suggest you choose FedEx Express to ship your items and/or add ice packs to your order (during extreme heat) to help prevent damages. We can also place your orders on weather hold until weather conditions improve. Wine is usually fine if it is exposed to some heat (as that is the way wine is made.....Heated so the yeast is activated). If your wine is warm, please place them in a cool, dark room so the wine can "settle."
Most returns will be accepted, but ALL bottles must be returned to get credit. A half bottle or empty bottle of something that did not taste GOOD is fine to return, but the customer will not receive full credit if the bottle is not included.
